Strand-Based Hair, Independent Cloth & Humidity Sweat: RAGE’s Character Realism Leap

Rockstar’s ninth-gen character pipeline simulates individual hair strands in convertible wind, non-clipping shirts, and Florida humidity sheen.
Watch Lucia whip her head around on the roof of a speeding convertible and you’re witnessing one of Ninth-Gen RAGE’s proudest party tricks: a full strand-based hair solver running alongside dozens of onscreen NPCs.

Three Layers Working Together on Every Character
- Hair Strand Solver: Individual hair clusters respond to gravity, ocean gusts, and water saturation.
- Decoupled Garment Physics: Shirts, dresses, and chains animate on a separate collision mesh above muscle deformation so fabrics crease without clipping.
- Physiological Skin Shaders: Dynamic, irregular sweat accumulation reflects Leonida’s tropical heat and physical exertion.
Combined with muscle-flex deformation during heavy lifting or gym workouts, characters in GTA VI finally shed the 'plastic action figure' look that haunted eighth-gen open worlds.
